Blue origin – Next plan

But, in august of 2020, the air force would select the united launch alliance and SpaceX to provide the air force with launches over the next five years.

Unfortunately for blue origin, the 500 million dollar contract specified that blue origin must remain a chosen launch provider for the air force to continue receiving payouts obviously given jeff Bezos’s wealth and willingness to splurge on the blue origin the development of new Glenn is in no jeopardy due to this decision.

However I’m sure the principle that the air force chose SpaceX and over blue origin was a downer for the company so far the company has invested 2.5 billion dollars into the development of new Glenn and they do have a couple of customers lined up such as teleset, OneWeb and sky perfect anyways looking forward blue origin still plans on launching the new glen for the first time.

Blue moon Project: Collaburated with NASA

The next major project of Blue origin is the Blue moon. The blue moon is liquid hydrogen, liquid oxygen fueled moon lander that comes in at 15 metric tons when fully loaded with fuel aside from this the blue moon is designed to be able to deliver a solid 3.6 metric tons to the lunar surface.

What is Dear Moon Project

Yusaku Maezawa, a Japanese millionaire, created and funded the dear moon project, a lunar tourist mission, and an art initiative. It will employ a SpaceX Starship on a private trip around the Moon on a single circumlunar route. Maezawa, eight civilians, and one or two crew members will be among the passengers.

Launch of Dear Moon Project

On February 27, 2017, SpaceX announced that they will be flying two space tourists around the Moon on a free-return route. The Crew Dragon 2 capsule was supposed to be used for this mission, which was supposed to launch in late 2018. Any trip would serve as technological development for SpaceX’s future aspirations to populate Mars, in addition to being a source of revenue for the firm.

But unfortunately, The Crew Dragon 2 capsule was still under development at the time of the 2017 announcement. Because of the variations in flight profiles between the intended lunar mission and its primary purpose for personnel transport to space stations circling Earth, the capsule was expected to require modifications.

In February 2018, SpaceX revealed that Starship would be used to fly lunar missions.

Apart from that, the New shepard is designed to deliver a solid 3.6 metric tonnes to the lunar surface. They’re also expected to have a larger variant capable of carrying up to 6.5 metric tons. The blue moon shepard rocket is intended to be employed on a range of lunar surface research activities; it can launch tiny satellites into orbit around the moon after many of these research operations have been completed. The regular shepard rocket is only designed to make one ray troops to the moon to maximize the payload volume however the larger variant will also carry sufficient fuel as well as an ascent module to enable round trips to the moon the blue moon’s New shepard rocket is expected to be used in conjunction with the new Glenn.

NASA – Blue moon Project

NASA is also planning to make use of these Shepard rockets. NASA’s current plan is to return people to the moon in 2024 using its upcoming space launch system. He explains that our bodies are as efficient as 100 watt light bulbs despite this as a society the average person living in western countries consumes about 11 000 watts or the same energy needed to sustain 110 humans as the energy demand in western countries continues to grow and developing countries catch up. He believes that we will have to resort to energy rationing; as a result, he believes that the solution to this problem is to expand energy production into space. This may entail erecting large solar panels in space or on nearby planets; these solar panels will store their produced energy on battery devices. which will be transported back and forth this of course requires that the energy produced by such solar panels far exceeds the energy consumed in transporting energy to the earth currently our solar technology is nowhere near enough to reasonably offset the energy consumed by rocket launches but a few decades in the future this vision might actually make sense.

Aside from this Jeff Bezos also feels that another important problem on the planet is air pollution, which must be addressed in addition to switching as many companies as possible to renewable energy. At the end of the day, he believes that businesses that cannot be transformed should be relocated to space. Blue Origin is currently working on making their new Shepard rocket ready for crude missions concurrently they’re also looking to finish the development of the new Glenn and the blue moon to expedite the journey in setting up a lunar base long term though they hope to offset the energy and pollution crisis on earth by moving energy production and manufacturing into space and that’s the state of blue origin today.

Why Starlink is faster than other satellite?

Some main drawbacks of existing satellite-based Internet services include the use of geostationary satellites that orbit at over 35,000 kilometers or approximately 22,000 miles above the earth’s surface; it is this distance that causes the first major difficulty, latency. In theory, a radio signal takes about 120 milliseconds to reach a geostationary satellite and another 120 milliseconds to relay that signal back down to the ground, so you’d be looking at at least 240 milliseconds, but in practice, round-trip latency delay is often between 400 and 600 milliseconds, which is 12 times slower than what you see on the ground.

The Starlink constellation so far with most of them deployed at around 550 kilometres or 340 miles they’re trying to launch 60 satellites per Falcon 9 flight for a total of around 4,400 satellites in phase 1 and they’ll add another 7500 and phase 2 so around the year 2027 they’ll have nearly 12,000 satellites deployed in three orbital shells now it’s not guaranteed but SpaceX has also submitted paperwork for an additional 30,000 satellites beyond that. But “why so many satellites?”– well Because low-earth orbit satellites are much closer to the earth, they can’t be stationary; they have to move faster to maintain their orbit, and they have a smaller cone of coverage. However, a big benefit of being so close is much lower latency for communication; latencies will range from 25 to 35 milliseconds, making it comparable to cable and fiber-optic networks.

Laser technology in Starlink

However, SpaceX utilises lasers to communicate between satellites, which star link will ultimately accomplish. Light travels 47 percent quicker through a vacuum than through glass, as a fiber-optic cable does. In our history, we’ve only launched about 9,000 objects into space, and of those, a little less than six thousand are still in use today SpaceX is going to triple that number in five to seven years and if they move forward with the additional 30,000 you can probably understand why a lot of people are concerned about overcrowding of space debris if you’ve ever seen the movie gravity then you probably know about the Kessler syndrome it’s the theory that an object colliding with another in a densely packed area of space could cause a cascade of destruction.

The FCC (Federal Communication Commission) required very strict plans from SpaceX to mitigate space debris which meant achieving a higher level of deorbiting reliability than NASA uses for itself that’s 90 percent of satellites reliably deorbiting with a targeted lifespan of 5 to 7 years. SpaceX told the FCC that it will implement an Operations Plan for the orderly deorbit of satellites nearing the end of their useful lives and a rate far faster than is required under international standards and that SpaceX satellites will deorbit by propulsively moving to a disposal orbit from which they will re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere within approximately one year after completion of their mission about 95% of the satellite parts will disintegrate in the Earth’s atmosphere during re-entry.

Light Pollution

As SpaceX satellites will remain in low orbit, astronomers are concerned about the influence on astronomical observations. Because the satellites are extremely visible when they are released and also visible as they tumble their way to their ultimate orbit, astronomers are concerned about light pollution.

SpaceX has been working with scientists to address these concerns, such as painting sections of the newer satellites black to reduce reflections, adjusting their orbit orientation to minimise how the satellite will catch and reflect sunlight towards the earth’s surface during their orbit, and even adding a Sun Shade to the satellite to help block reflections they’re calling irradiation. There are still many unanswered concerns regarding how this may affect visual and radio telescope observations in the long run, but SpaceX is working hard to answer them.

Rival’s for SpaceX

SpaceX isn’t the only company working on low Earth orbit constellations for Internet service companies like Telus at one web and Amazon all have plans but nobody’s successfully launched a business out of this Amazon is working on project Kuiper which will have around 3,200 satellites but has yet to put any satellites into orbit and OneWeb is another rival company which launched 74 satellites just filed for bankruptcy in March of 2020.
